What is not miss expo
With 190 countries most certainly participating in the Dubai Expo 2020, the expo promises over 15+ hours of entertainment daily with numerous attractions to look forward to. Here’s what’s on the cards:
1. Pavilions
Every country will have its own pavilion spread across the sprawling 4.65 sq. Kms area. The structure of each pavilion is an architectural marvel and every country will host its own live shows, interactive exhibits, meeting spaces, quirky cafes to hang out at, local cuisines and much more.
All of this while conforming to the theme of the exhibition, with every country keeping in tandem with a sub-theme. Apart from country-based pavilions, you’ll also find pavilions designed around the theme of Connecting Minds which will conduct activities based on Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability, while mascot-inspired pavilions promise to be a treat for kids and grown-ups alike.
2. A Special Screening Ceiling
Dubai has always been at the centre of groundbreaking architectural inventions and growth, and the Dubai Expo certainly isn’t any different! The Al Wasi Plaza, a park in the expo, comprises a steel dome which is fitted with the world’s biggest 360-degree projection surface. Videos being screened on this surface will be visible to visitors both inside and outside the Al Wasi Plaza.
3. Get A Bird’s Eye View
The spectacular Dubai World Expo 2020 needn’t just be witnessed from the ground. To make the experience more enthralling, the expo is hosting a rotating observation tower that lets you catch a good view of the domes, shamianas, parks, and larger-than-life structures right from the top.
When the professional cameras pop out, make sure you get that perfect social media shot with the marvellous Dubai Skyline in the background and the Dubai Expo at your feet!
4. Salama, the Ghaf Tree:
In Arabic culture, the Ghaf Tree is considered wise and powerful and has been a place of refuge and relaxation for umpteen travellers for centuries gone by. Via an inspirational story about Salama, a character based on the Ghaf Tree, the Expo will throw light on how the tree is a symbol of peace and tolerance.
The ancient tree has witnessed UAE through the ages, seen the country’s history and unification, lives through its present and looks forward to the future. It symbolises the Expo's theme of 'Connecting Minds, Creating the Future'. Just like the country she resides in, she continues to grow and flourish.
Located across the site of Expo 2020, the tree was preserved despite significant construction to prepare for an exceptional Expo. There will also be Arab-style vistas including palm groves and jasmine trees that’ll keep you cool while wandering through the sprawling expo.
5. Say Hi to the mascots!
Dubai Expo 2020 isn’t introducing just one or two, but five mascots who will be present at the pavilions! 9-year-old Rashid believes in all things magical, enjoys stories by ancestors, aspires to save the environment and loves nature! His younger sister, Latifa, is great at science and technology.
She’s always up for a good challenge and believes in re-inventing and making a difference, one deed, one person at a time. Along with these two adorable mascots are those who guard the three themes that build the pillars of the Dubai Expo. Terra is the Sustainability Pavilion Guardian, who wants to protect nature with all her might!
And Alif is the Mobility Pavilion Guardian who believes in shapeshifting. Last, but not least, is Opti, the Opportunity Pavilion Guardian who will inspire you to grab every opportunity that comes your way, so that you grow and let the world around you grow too! Make sure you stop by and greet this one-of-a-kind team!
6. Watch LIVE performances
Turn back the pages of Arab history as you discover tunes of a thousand years at the Al Wasi Opera. Sung in Arabic and English, the songs too are centred around sustainability, mobility, opportunity and above all, connectivity and unity, which is the core theme of the Expo.
Through a blend of art forms like music, dance, and storytelling at these LIVE performances, Dubai’s rich heritage and growth will be highlighted. Renowned artists like composer Mohammed Fairouz, Maha Gargash, a librettist, and Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimy will be present and performing, while other experts will conduct opera workshops for school children and teachers.
The two-hour opera performances will only be held between 21-24 October 2020, so make sure you get your passes real quick, so as to not miss out!
7. Delve into unique flavours
There’s bound to be lots of delicious food at an Expo like this one because nothing brings together people better than food. It keeps in tandem with the theme of connectivity and unity There’s going to be more than 50 restaurants, 200+ F&B outlets, and over 300 dishes to binge on at the expo.
But this isn’t just a basic food fair that lines up your bars and cafes. The theme of connectivity and future will shed light upon the future of food, augmented reality making its way into the food industry, and how robots might deliver your food very soon. There’s going to be a blend of flavours and cuisines like you’ve never tried before, and it’s made to suit every palate and budget possible.
8. Prepare for a Party!
The Dubai Expo 2020 encompasses everything from culture to cuisine and education to entrepreneurship for adults, but it doesn’t leave behind the kids.
